The lights are on
During a conference call to investors, Sony executive VP and CFO Masaru Kato said that "our development work is already under way" for a "future platform."
Kato was responding to a question about Sony's increased research and development costs. The quote in full reads:
“For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life, but this is a platform business, so for the future platform – when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that – but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there," Kato said.
He claims that Sony is taking a more economical approach with the next console: “It is no longer thinkable to have a huge initial financial investment like that of the PS3.”

Too bad, I actually preferred having a beast system like the PS3.
I wonder will this run the new disc format thats supposed to hold like 10 times that of blurays.
seriously, it's not surprising they're already working on the next playstation. at least give the ps3 another few years before revealing the next one. holy mother of god.
It had better be nowhere near completion.
Man Sony sucks @ss! this will be their ultimate fail... Eat sh!t a die Sony for this, after infamous I'm selling everything..
It'll be awesome. I'm looking forward to the ngp, is well.
Funny thing is Sony got a large boost in sales. Now the question is, how will these consoles pair with Nintendo?
i've seen the schematics; its a crudely drawn square on a napkin.
kind like that family guy gag about wanting war first and NOT BEING GAY:
nintendo: we're working on our next console.
microsoft: we are also working on our next console.
sony: i was the frst one to work on our next console!
this is very surprising...not! after whats just happened, making this is probably cheaper than another breach
I hope it's still along way down the road that this thing comees out. Perhaps 3 years at the least, because I still feel that my PS3 is fresh and the games and the graphics still get better and better
While of course Microsoft should be working on another console (it came out a year and half before the ps3, and they've already hit the limitations of it), Sony should not release this before 2013, or maybe even 2014. They can still do so much with it, and this year in games alone shows that.
598 US dollars
I hope this consoles release in three years (PS4 & Xbox), 'cause right I won't be able to afford it.
