NBA Renews Multi-Publisher Licensing Deal

by Matthew Kato on May 23, 2011 at 04:52 AM

While we all wait to see which pair of teams make the NBA finals, the league has already endorsed two off-the-court foes. The NBA has renewed its contracts with both 2K Sports and EA Sports for future basketball titles.

No terms of the deal were given, but in the league's press release, it does mention that 2K Sports and developer Visual Concepts are working on "online and social media" opportunities for sometime in the future.

As far as EA Sports goes, the company has to be thankful that that the league is still behind it after the cancellation of NBA Elite 11. The NBA's press release doesn't mention the franchise by name, instead calling it a "new simulation game" by EA Sports. The publisher hasn't announced whether it will keep the NBA Elite franchise name it never used in the first place when the long-awaited title comes out in fall 2012.

Before then, basketball fans can look forward to NBA Jam: On Fire edition for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this fall.
