The lights are on
While we all wait to see which pair of teams make the NBA finals, the league has already endorsed two off-the-court foes. The NBA has renewed its contracts with both 2K Sports and EA Sports for future basketball titles.
No terms of the deal were given, but in the league's press release, it does mention that 2K Sports and developer Visual Concepts are working on "online and social media" opportunities for sometime in the future.
As far as EA Sports goes, the company has to be thankful that that the league is still behind it after the cancellation of NBA Elite 11. The NBA's press release doesn't mention the franchise by name, instead calling it a "new simulation game" by EA Sports. The publisher hasn't announced whether it will keep the NBA Elite franchise name it never used in the first place when the long-awaited title comes out in fall 2012.
Before then, basketball fans can look forward to NBA Jam: On Fire edition for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this fall.

Both games sell really well so this makes sense for the NBA.
I approve! Having NBA games go the same way as NFL games would be disastrous. Competition is good
EA needs to do another NBA Live, not one like the last 4 or 5 years. Maybe something similar to '98-'03 those were the best ones!
I keep forgetting that it's going to be a long haul until Elite - or whatever they call it - comes out.
Wow its kind of nice that the NBA still supports EA Sports even though they had a set back with NBA Elite. It would be nice to see what they come out with in 2012. I loved both the NBA Live and 2k series because they both brought something different to the table with realistic aspects to basketball. If only they could combine them together. Either way I like the competition between both 2K Sports and EA Sports.
Now if only the NFL can do the same thing
good they renewede with 2k and EA.
EA's contract should have not been renewed whatsoever especially the lack of an NBA game this year
