Free Character Transfers Coming To Rift
Trion Worlds will be letting players move their characters and guilds for free when the 1.3 update to the game hits later this summer.
Once the update is live, you'll be able to move each one of your characters along with his or her items, stats, and achievements to a new server once a week. Guild leaders will be able to transfer their guild similarly, keeping the guild's achievements and name intact on its new home.
Trion says that character/guild transfers "will remain a free service for the forseeable future."
While I like Rift quite a lot, I can empathize with people who rolled on a server that now has a lower-than-optimal population or that has unbearable login queues during their typical playtimes. Hopefully free transfers will let the community even things out on its own, or at least let players play on the server that best fits their playstyle. Kudos to Trion for addressing a legitimate problem for a large subset of its users, and for not taking this opportunity to nickle-and-dime the playerbase.
