[UPDATE]: Podophobia Entertainment Website Not Registered By Bungie

by Jeff Marchiafava on May 22, 2011 at 08:48 AM

[Update]: It appears we won't have to wait 117 days after all. More digging suggests the newly registered website wasn't registered by Bungie.

A WHOIS search reveals that PodophobiaEntertianment.com was registered just this past Friday, when news first broke of Bungie's shell company. The contact information for the registration points to the administrator of a gaming site that is unrelated to Bungie, so whatever the timer is counting down to, it likely doesn't have anything to do with the developer's next project. It does, however, bring up one interesting question: How the heck did Bungie go through the trouble of creating a fake company to trademark the potential name of its new game, and not think to grab the domain for said fake company?

[Original Story]: Two days ago we brought you news about a shell company Bungie set up to trademark the term "Destiny," the rumored name of the sci-fi MMO the company is reportedly working on. Today that company has a new website, with the most absurd countdown timer we've seen yet.

Bungie's dummy company is called Podophobia Entertainment, and its newly-published website is a stark white page with a countdown timer -- a timer that is currently counting down to 117 days from now. The only other thing that appears on the website is a message that alternates between "Please Wait..." and "Incoming Transmission..."

What does it all mean? Your guess is as good as ours, but we'll be sure to update you 117 days from now.

Thanks to Luke for the news tip!
