Report: GameFly Buying Direct2Drive From IGN

by Bryan Vore on May 20, 2011 at 09:42 AM

U.K. gaming news site MCV claims to have multiple sources supporting IGN's sell-off of digital game download service Direct2Drive to mail-based game rental service GameFly. MCV says that an official announcement will happen next week.

Purchasing Direct2Drive would open up the digital rental/purchase market to compliment mailed rentals for GameFly, similar to Netflix's popular streaming content.

If this deal comes to fruition, it would come on the heels of IGN's recent purchase of UGO.

We've contacted GameFly and received a standard "we don't comment on rumors or speculation." IGN has yet to respond to our request for comment.
