No One Claims Responsibility For L.A. Noire Freezes

by Matt Miller on May 19, 2011 at 11:20 AM

Rockstar says it's not the game. Sony says it's not the system. Gremlins considered as likely suspects.

Kidding aside, it was a strange joint press release we received from Rockstar and Sony today, in which both companies absolved themselves of responsibility for some apparent technical problems being encountered by some users. Yesterday, Rockstar had claimed on their support site that the PS3 firmware update 3.61 might be causing some PS3s to overheat while playing L.A. Noire. Today, the two companies released a joint statement that had the following to say.

"We have received a very small number of customer support questions about PS3’s overheating or shutting down while playing L.A. Noire. At this time, Rockstar Games and Sony can confirm that neither L.A. Noire or firmware update 3.61 are causing the PS3 hardware to overheat. We are both committed to working hard to find solutions to this and any issues that may arise."

Have you run into any problems getting your PS3 copy of L.A. Noire to run? If so, do the assurances of these two companies that it's not their fault make you feel better about the situation? Then again, it's worth noting that we've seen no proof that these overheating problems even exist. Is this much ado about nothing?
