Gears Of War Board Game Announced

The new project from acclaimed tabletop developer Fantasy Flight Games lets up to four friends play cooperatively to bring down the Locust horde.

An exciting new webpage popped up today over at Fantasy Flight's website, announcing that Gears of War is on its way to your table thanks to a new cooperative game designed by Corey Konieczka (Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game, Mansions of Madness).

Gears of War: The Board Game puts each player in charge of a COG soldier. As a team, the players will work together to secure territory from the Horde in one of seven unique scenarios, and along maps that are randomized for each playthrough.

The game will come with over 30 plastic figures, over 200 cards, and the expected array of tiles, dice, and rules. The game's website includes a price of &79.95, but there's no listing for release date quite yet.

We're big fans of co-op board games, so we'll be keeping an eye on this game as it gets closer to release.

  • DUDE!!! The effin board game is more than the video game!
  • Yay!! im pre-ordering it...
  • Somehow I don't think chainsawing a Locust will be the same...
  • I know it's silly to stereotype but... Finally a tabletop game for frat boys and bros!
  • Well, that's one way to combat piracy.

  • Dang, I was hoping for Risk or something.

  • That will either be really awesome, or really, really bad.
  • this will surely replace monopoly nights! with chainsaw!, would buy it just for the figures
  • Umm... not to be a jerk, but doesn't this defeat the point of Gears? I mean, how will the executions work? Do we do them on the other players? And most importantly, does it come with a chainsaw for them?
  • i hope u can play as either cog or horde

  • This could be really good!

    ...Like Hoard mode?

Not bashing the game, I love board games myself, it just seems odd to play a board game that pretty much has the exact same rules as the video game.

  • I couldn't see myself playing this despite that I'm a big Gears fan. However, I'd probably buy it just as a collector's item. Things like this become ebay friendly in the future when they're rare.

  • I Dont See How It Is Going To Work...

  • *facepalm*

  • Wow $80?  I guess I'll have to see how high quality the figures are before I judge the price.

  • I wonder if you have to roll a certain number to get chainsaw or if it'll be a card play....

    Nerd :p

I'd probably not have anyone to play this with but it'll be tempting if not just for the mass of figures :D

  • If it's anything like Axis & Allies I'm down.

  • Oh god, not something else! Must. Resist....

Nope, it's not working. I gotta go get this silly thing. Curse you Gears of War! xD

  • this sounds epic if i still liked board games i would so get this =) the game its self would be fun tho. i would like the video game better =)
