Dude Has Seizure While Playing Oblivion, Sues Bethesda

by Dan Ryckert on May 13, 2011 at 06:12 AM

Ryan McLaughlin was a former pilot in the Navy, and it's "former" thanks to Oblivion if his claims are true. He says that flashing lights in the gigantic Bethesda game caused him to have the first seizure he's ever experienced, and he subsequently lost his flying status. His claim states the following: "The product was so designed that it exceeded the upper acceptable limit of more than 3 flashes over a 1 second period, as well as acceptable spatial pattern and luminance flash limits. These risks were not made known to the plaintiff and/or an ordinary consumer prior to the time of purchase."

He's looking to get some cash for his medical bills, product liability damages, and punitive damages. Obviously we can't say with any certainty if his claims are legitimate or not, but I personally don't remember any strobe light parties going on in Cyrodiil.
