The Soul Still Burns With Soulcalibur V Announcement

by Jeff Cork on May 11, 2011 at 03:33 AM

Namco Bandai has revealed the next installment in the Soulcalibur fighting-game series, which is set 17 years after the events of its predecessor. According to game director Daishi Odashima, Soulcalibur V will star Patroklos, the son of Sophitia and Rothion.

The game was announced at Namco Bandai's Level Up event in Dubai. A trailer was shown, which highlighted a few of the game's characters but didn't show off any gameplay. Fortunately for all of us, someone was sneaky and uploaded a shaky-cam look at the video. In an interview with Eurogamer, producer Hisaharu Tago gave up a few more details. Tago says he considers the game to be a generational shift, telling a new story with new characters. Some familiar faces will be returning, however. In addition, Tago told the site that guest characters will be included in the game, which has been a tradition for the series.

We'll have more information on the game at E3. It's set for release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sometime in 2012.

Odashima also tweeted a sketch of Patroklos, which you can see below.
