The lights are on
Ever feel like you're drowning in sequels? We feel you. Sequels are big business, though, and Electronic Arts has the evidence to show it.
As part of its announcement of results from the fourth quarter of its fiscal year, EA revealed that Crysis 2, Dragon Age 2, and Dead Space 2 have all surpassed two million in sales. Four other EA titles releasing in the fourth quarter went over one million, and several other milestones were reached:
EA also said that Dead Space 2 sales are 40% higher than sales of the first game over a similar period of time, which is good news for a franchise that at one point didn't seem like a surefire success.
All of these sales milestones add up to a strong quarterly report for the publisher, which claims it was the #1 Western publisher this past quarter for both consoles and PC. Congratulations to EA on its success, and we'll look forward to a number of games with "3" in the title (beginning with Mass Effect 3) selling strong next year.
Awesome. Over 2 million people have screamed in horror once again.
Awesome!!!
That guy's going to get owned trying to take out babies with a plasma cutter.
Anyway, yeah, 3 great games. I've already played Dead Space 2 and Crysis 2, and I'm working on Dragon Age 2 right now.
I think this is good for EA. I hope that the sales keep up so they can keep making quality games. I can see Madden 12 and Mass Effect 3 reaching 2 million and higher. I can't wait for EA's E3/ Last year was game, game, game, game and I hope this year is Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, and more great games.
I agree with the statement above about the original Dead Space not looking as though it'd be a success....and that statement assumes even more truth in the wake of how stellar Dead Space 2 is.
Sweet. I can't wait for more sequels!Crysis 2 was (and is) freaking amazing, BF:BC2 is probably one of my favorite games of all time, and don't even get me started on how much I love Dead Space 2.
I only got Dead Space 2 and I must say that game is kick-ass
I'm actually proud for EA. They put out a lot of great content this year, so they deserve all of this money, I think.
Holy man EA really makes a lot of money , the thing is they really do top notch video games , at least EA deserve it, good quality products!
Crysis 2 was really good, so was BFBC 2. I can't say for the rest. But most sequels make a lot more than new IPs anyway. People are more inclined to buy a (somewhat)sure thing.
Yeah I'm glad for Dead Space... really liked the first and it's sad that you can attach that epithet to it.
Just wish I could get around to playing it.
