Mobile Games Nearly Half Of Full Game Downloads

by Tim Turi on May 04, 2011 at 08:40 AM

According to NPD’s The Online Gaming 2011 report almost half of complete game downloads are purchased on mobile platforms. A poll by the NPD reveals that mobile game purchases took up 47% of total downloads.

Shacknews emphasizes that the results only count for full games downloads, so DLC and microtransactions don’t count. Additionally, mobile games are generally much cheaper than their console counterparts, so hundreds of low risk $1 titles help boost mobile game downloads.

"Full-game price points on mobile devices are generally lower than those for console and portable systems, so mobile's full game download unit share does not translate to a comparable level of consumer spend," says NPD analyst Anita Frazier
