Latest Nintendo HD Rumor Suggests Limited Storage

by Phil Kollar on May 03, 2011 at 03:50 PM

Are you tired of Nintendo HD rumors yet? Too bad! We've still got a good month left until E3, so we're likely to continue picking up on hearsay and speculation until the hours before the big N's E3 press conference. Here's the latest batch of rumors.

Kotaku is reporting from unnamed sources that Nintendo's new HD system will eschew the massive hard drives of its competitors, instead offering a mere 8GB of flash-based memory built into the system. As Kotaku points out, if this is true, it would make robust downloadable content and bigger downloadable games difficult to squeeze onto the system without quickly filling up users' available memory.

In less depressing potential news, Kotaku's sources are also saying that the system will use a new proprietary disc format that holds up to 25GB, meaning it will pack in more info than Wii or Xbox 360 discs and as much as a single-layer Blu-ray disc.

So is this legit? Are ANY of the many rumors about the new system real? We'll most likely have no way of knowing for sure until E3. See you there!
