World Of Warcraft: Cataclysm's First Content Patch Gets Name, Trailer

Blizzard has started letting out details on its first big content patch for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, and we've got the pre-release trailer for the patch right here.

Titled "Rise of the Zandalari," the new patch will take the WoW storyline's focus away from the rampage caused by the dragon Deathwing and onto a new partnership of troll tribes that are attempting to regain a foothold in Azeroth. New content will include a new level 85 quest chain in Stranglethorn, a new level 85 5-player dungeon in Zul'Gurub, and a revised 5-player version of the Zul'Aman raid.

Both the original World of Warcraft release and the Burning Crusade expansion had a major troll-focused content patch, so Rise of the Zandalari is continuing a long-running tradition for the popular MMO. As the video below makes clear, though, the Darkspear trolls that Horde players can take on the role of will remain sided with the Horde and will actually be leading the offensive against this new troll threat.

Blizzard has not announced an official release date for World of Warcraft patch 4.1 yet, but MMO Champion is reporting that it will be live tomorrow. Curiously, this is Blizzard's first WoW patch in quite some time that doesn't have a new 10/25-person raid. You can find out more information on Rise of the Zandalari on the official Cataclysm website.

  • It really is about time!

  • Awesome.

  • I'm looking forward to getting a warbear on my hunter.

  • im a troll druid....i stand with darkspear.
  • B-res for Death Knights?

Weekly Valor cap in one day?

    More mounts?

    AWWWW YEEEAAAHHHH.
  • nice as always blizzard released a great trailer

  • Sick!

  • Looking pretty awesome, too bad it's just about some internet trolls.
  • Since I quit WoW I've kinda been keeping an eye on the game to see if anything comes out that would make me want to play again... gotta say, this is not it, probably THE WORST major content patch since the conception of the game (rivaled only by the dreadful "argent tournament" *shudders*) I like trolls, but really? two rehashed instances? (I know Zul'Gurub is a little different but most of the bosses are still the same, Zul'Aman is EXACTLY the same just tuned for 5 people) and a couple new interface tools, a few class tweeks that seem stupid at best eg. DK get battle rez? way to homogenize classes Blizz. Cool trailer as usual, bad content patch, lets hope 4.2 isn't quite as half assed.

  • Not a fan of their dialog.  But I love the voice-acting and the writing (for the story.)

  • I sadly lost interest in WoW completely. Usually the expansions will bring me back, but Cata kept my interest until 83. The phasing was cool, but most of my friends were gone and without that I don't think the games entertainment value holds up as well.

  • I think I know what the next Respec Radio will be about.

  • No new raid and rehashes of old dungeons brought down to 5 man level? Wow, they really must be trolling (pun absolutely intended).

  • I haven't played WoW in almost five months now, but this isn't going to make me come back anytime soon.  It's not that I hate WoW, but there are so many great triple-AAA console games to play (not to mention a hefty list of PS3 exclusives that I need to play) that I just don't have time for any adventuring in Azeroth, atleast for now.

  • ***. The Zandalar trolls were supposed to be good guys, you know, the people you got reputation for when you killed those other trolls. This has got to be one of the worst excuses for rehashing old, useless content I've seen yet, and this shoddy, poorly made trailer does not make me want to start playing again anytime soon.

  • This should be a good patch, although I think the name was released weeks ago...

The trailer is pretty cool, although since it's just 5-mans, I can't help but laughing a bit at them saying they're going to take over the world.

  • Best part that I read, BOA gear is now BOB.netA (Bound on Battle.net Account) gear.  Super excited about that one!

  • The content is new to me so I'm excited about it; it doesn't seem to be impressing the grizzled WoW vets though.  I like the call to arms and guild challenges coming up.

  • Now I want to play again, but my account got hacked ;(

  • I am actually glad it's down to 5-man dungeon additions. Plenty are still pushing through raid content so this is a nice boost.
