Mario & Sonic Begin Training For The 2012 London Olympics

The previous Mario & Sonic Olympic Games titles have scored some sales medals of their own, so it looks like Nintendo and Sega’ mascots will be reuniting for another test of the titans during next year’s Olympic games set in London.

This test of champions will be headed to the Wii and 3DS and will feature over 50 original Olympic-themed events, including new games like soccer and equestrian. A new schedule of Dream events, set within popular Mario and Sonic worlds, will round out the collection, and are sure to tire out this plumber and hedgehog…at least until the 2014 winter games in Russia.

"These games bring together two of the most beloved characters in the history of the video game industry," said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "As veterans of both video games and Olympic games, they will arrive in London as a formidable team to provide fun, competitive sporting activities that friends and family members can enjoy together."

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games will be headed to Wii and 3DS likely around the time of the Olympics next year, but an official date hasn’t been announced yet.

  • *Sigh

  • I still don't get how Mario is as fast as Sonic. MARIO CAN'T DO EVERYTHING!!!!!!
  • So this time the Olympics are gonna be in London, huh?
  • One of these days, one of these titles is gonna be good... then we'll all eat our hats, with a side of flying pig.
  • You can blame all the small children for this sequel.
  • The sad thing is, this will be a better Sonic game than Sonic Generations.

  • Oh please. Nintendo needs to just give up. I'm tired of lame remakes.

  • they won't stop until the sales stop, will they.

  • Hopefully one of them breaks their ankle and the game isn't released.

  • these games are ok

  • And exactly zero s**** were given.

  • 'Hardcore' gamers out in force today, apparently.

    ... go Mario?

  • can they at least use the Wii MotionPlus to make it semi-respectable?

  • I really don't see how Sonic could lose to Mario...and I love Mario.

  • Everyone pack your backs and go home...the olympics are officially ruined.

  • Noooooooo, dear God no...

What have we done?  God is dead and we killed him.

    With this unholy bond...

  • Sh*t like this makes me lose even more faith in humanity
  • Well, wouldn't it be something if the Olympians played this in London, as an event?

Maybe not, but it was a thought.

  • What, is it the exact same game as the first Sonic/Mario Olympics game but now the announcers have a British accent?
