Happy Game Of Thrones Day, Everybody!

by Adam Biessener on Apr 17, 2011 at 08:02 AM

HBO's television adaptation of George R.R. Martin's seminal fantasy series has gotten as much buzz in the GI offices as L.A. Noire or Portal 2. It's finally debuting tonight. If you're as excited as we are, stop in here to discuss it and/or ogle the cast.

The Cast (that you might know):

Sean Bean as Eddard Stark

The main character from the novel is portrayed by the estimable Sean Bean, who you probably know best as Boromir from Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films. Bean is a fantastic actor; I can't imagine a better casting for Ned.

Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister

One of the most recognizable and respected little people in film, Dinklage plays the conniving third Lannister sibling. Tyrion is arguably the most nuanced character in the entire series, and it'll be fascinating to see Dinklage's take on the role.

Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister

The smokin' hot actress who played Sarah Connor in The Sarah Connor Chronicles is the smokin' hot queen who may or may not be totally, irredeemably evil and/or more than a little nuts.

Aiden Gillen as Petyr Baelish, a.k.a. Littlefinger

Best known as Councilman Tommy Carcetti in The Wire, Gillen takes on a similarly ambitious if slightly slimier role as minor noble Petyr Baelish. I thoroughly enjoyed Gillen in The Wire (no surprise; it's literally the best TV show ever), so I'm definitely glad to see him cast in this promising show. He is not to be confused with Dr. Who's Karen Gillen, though my lady friend would argue that he's just as pretty.

Conan Stevens as Gregor Clegane, a.k.a. The Mountain That Rides

The giant elder Clegane not only has the best nickname ever, but he's played by a dude named Conan. How awesome is that?

A Bunch Of British Actors You Don't Know as Everyone Else

Seriously, you've never heard of any of the rest of these people unless you're heavily involved with theater (theatre?) in the United Kingdom or you work for the BBC.

Are you pumped? I'm pumped. I can pretty well guarantee you that very little will get done at the GI office tomorrow since everyone is going to be talking about this instead. (Reiner's not reading this, right? Who am I kidding, he's going to be catatonic from nerding out over this show anyway.)

For you trainspotters out there, this is totally game-related, I promise. Screenshots and early details on the Game of Thrones PC RTS in development can be found here. See? This is a video game website, promise.
