Shogun 2 DirectX 11 Patch Coming In May

by Adam Biessener on Apr 15, 2011 at 06:01 AM

The Creative Assembly is bringing its current flagship game up to current-gen graphical standards with the creatively named Patch 2, scheduled to come out the first week of May.

"Since Shogun 2’s launch, we’ve been completely blown away by the success of multiplayer," said Creative Assembly community guy Craig Laycock on the official forums. To that end, Patch 2 is also intended to fix yet another set of multiplayer issues, building on the several post-release patches that CA has already released to address connectivity problems and exploits.

As much as we ("we" being the Internet at large in this case) like to complain about patches fixing things that "should have been done by release," Total War: Shogun 2 has been a remarkably solid game in most respects from day one. It certainly blows the last few Total War games out of the water in that regard, and it's even silenced most of the strident critics who loudly declared that they'd never buy another Creative Assembly game after Empire.

The multiplayer issues have been the biggest problem so far by all accounts, so it's good to see them getting some attention. While my ridiculously expensive graphics card will make me appreciate the DirectX 11 renderer, I've never had a problem with the way Shogun 2 looks. As far as I'm concerned – especially as someone who doesn't care for Total War multiplayer – this patch is going to be icing on an already tasty cake.
