Activision Executive Says Guitar Hero Is Not Dead

by Matt Helgeson on Apr 12, 2011 at 10:41 AM

During Activision's recent spate of layoffs and internal restructuring, many of its well-known franchises and studios were either shutdown or put on indefinite hiatus. One of the most high profile victims was thought to be Guitar Hero. Now, it appears that there might be some life left in the franchise.

In an interview with Gameindustry.biz, Activision VP of developer relations and acquisitions Dan Winters said, "Actually, just to clarify, we're just putting Guitar Hero on hiatus; we're not ending it. We're releasing products out of the vault. We'll continue to sustain the channel; the brand won't go away. We're just not making a new one for next year; that's all."

While there is definitely no Guitar Hero game coming from Activision in 2011, it's good to hear that the franchise has some life left in it. Obviously, the break might be a good thing for Guitar Hero, which released a staggering 22 products under the brand name for a variety of platforms between 2005 and 2010.
