Angry Birds Is Already Best-Selling PSN Game

by Matt Helgeson on Apr 09, 2011 at 09:49 AM

Okay, we knew Angry Birds is a sales juggernaut, but this is crazy. In an interview with Industry Gamers, Lazard Capital Markets' Colin Sebastian said that Rovio's casual sensation has already been purchased more times than any title in the history of Sony's PlayStation Network -- and it was just released in January of this year.

We knew that Angry Birds had dominated the iPhone market like no other game, but when it was announced that the game was coming to consoles, some wondered if it would resonate with the console audience. Also, given that its standard price in PSN is $3.99 -- three dolars more than on iPhone -- many also wondered if gamers would be willing to pay a higher price.

Well consider those questions answered. We're pretty sure you could release Angry Birds on an abacus and it would sell.

Later in the story, Sebastians said the success of Angry Birds is indicative of PSN's success with a newer, more casual audience, drawn to the service by its non-subscription, microtransaction driven model.
