[Update]: Sonic Generations (?) is Here

by Phil Kollar on Apr 07, 2011 at 04:35 AM

[Update]: Sega has just updated their Facebook page, which has a new Sonic teaser trailer. It's not specifically called Sonic Generations, but it does preface the quick footage with a 20th anniversary Sonic logo and features two different versions of Sonic racing against each other. Enjoy. Whatever this game is, it's coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sometime this year.

[Original Story]: If there's one thing that we can be certain of with Sega, it's that they're probably always working on at least one new Sonic project. We know that a second episode of Sonic 4 is in the works, but new evidence suggests that something else might be brewing for the world's most popular hedgehog.

G4TV reports that on the official Sonic Facebook page, Sega has been dropping vague hints of something big coming soon, culminating in today's promise of a trailer that will debut on the Facebook page tomorrow, April 7. A similar promise was made on Sega's Twitter account.

So where does the title Sonic Generations come from? That's thanks to the magical Internet detectives over at NeoGAF, who discovered that the same company that registered Internet domains for Sonic 4 and Sonic Free Riders have registered SonicGenerations.com and Sonic-Generations.com.

Some forum members are speculating that the title will be a simple compilation of older Sonic games, like the many that have come before, while others are pointing to an older rumor suggesting a game that will reuse classic Sonic levels but with new graphics and abilities.

Whatever the truth ends up being, we will hopefully know tomorrow. Stay tuned to the Sonic Facebook page and Game Informer, where we'll update you as soon as something official is revealed.
