[UPDATE]: Smithsonian Extends Voting For Video Game Art Exhibition
[UPDATE]: If you haven't voted yet for the Smithsonian's "The Art of Video Games" exhibition, you still have time. Today the institution announced that it's extended the deadline for voting until April 17. If you have an opinion on which games best represent the medium, make your voice heard now.

[ORIGINAL STORY]: Are video games art? It's a debate that we're sick to death of hearing about, but hopefully an upcoming Smithsonian exhibition will end the argument once and for all. The museum is planning a show entitled "The Art of Video Games," and would like you to help decide which games best represent the medium.
From February 14 through April 7, gamers can vote at the Smithsonian's website for the games that they think should be displayed at the exhibition. “Playing video games involves many personal choices, so, in keeping with the spirit of the exhibition’s content, we want to involve the public in helping us select games for the exhibition,” said Elizabeth Broun, The Margaret and Terry Stent Director of the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Chris Melissinos, the curator of the exhibition, agrees that getting feedback from gamers is important to the show. “I want this exhibition to include the collective voice of the video game world, which is not limited to the developers, designers, and artists but also the game players...It is important to me that when gamers visit the exhibition, they find the experiences that most matter to them.”
"The Art of Video Games" will open in Washington D.C. on March 16, 2012.
