Gorgeous Unreal 3 Engine Trailer Details Impressive Tech

by Matt Helgeson on Apr 06, 2011 at 10:30 AM

Epic's Samaritan trailer looked more like a trailer for a new game property than a showcase for the company's next-generation Unreal 3 Engine technology, leading many to speculate that the clip will indeed become a game at some point. Today, Epic released a new Unreal 3 Engine trailer, one aimed more at developers than gamers.

The clip shows footage from "The Samaritan," but also shows many new backend features being implemented into the Unreal 3 Engine, ones aimed at making the job of developers much easier. Thankfully, there's also a good deal of eye candy, so even if terms like "Multi-Channel Key Framing" and "Deferred Rendering with MSAA Support" make your eyes gloss over there's a lot to wonder over. The bottom line? Game graphics have not hit a wall with the current generation of consoles and PC graphics card, and Unreal 3 games in the near future will look quite amazing indeed.

The clip also shows new Android-specific features for Unreal 3 Engine. However, Unreal support for Android seems to be a point of confusion for Epic.
