New Mass Effect Novel Revealed

The newest book picks up threads and characters from previous novels to weave new stories into the Mass Effect lore.

Mass Effect: Deception follows the story of Gillian Grayson. According to the press release for the novel, the story follows the powerful biotic girl in the time after her harsh imprisonment and dangerous experimentation at the hands of the Cerberus organization. She has now escaped, and is learning to control her tremendous powers, but begins to work with a dangerous radical group where she faces some dangerous choices. Deception will release sometime this fall.

The new novel is being penned by William C. Dietz, a veteran sci-fi author who has had his hand in any number of different sci-fi universes over the years, including Star Wars, Starcraft, Resistance, and Halo.

It will be interesting to see how the events of this new book affect the game chronology of Mass Effect. Do you think Gillian Grayson might be a new character in Mass Effect 3?

  • Sweet! anything to wet my appetite for ME 3 is welcome.

  • I'm the only person that hasn't played Mass Effect. Not that I don't want to but I just over-look it with no intention. Expanding a games universe by all media is a great thing to do.
  • Awesome. I've loved the novels. Hopefully, they finally tie into the games with ME3. Only a tad worried that DK isn't working on this one.
  • Please don't tell me that the size of the book will be really small, god how I wish for all the books to be in hardcover.
  • Mass Effect is one of the few sci-fi stories that I don't know really well. I really need to get ME2 to take a look.

  • I liked the previous 3 books, so i'll definitely be keeping an eye on this, but i'll admit i'm a little worried that there's a new author. Oh, and I doubt Gillian Grayson would be in ME3. The characters who originated in the books usually stay in the books. There's been no mention of any of them to the best of my knowledge in game (except a possible reference to a book event). The books have never had a serious impact on in game events.
  • Awesome! I got first three books a few months ago and I couldn't peel myself away from them. I can't wait to continue Gillian's story. I have a feeling she'll be in Mass Effect 3 along with Kahlee Sanders.

  • I want someone from the books (like Hendel Mitra) as a Mass Effect 3 squadmate.

  • still haven't read the first novel.  i need to.

  • me3me3me3me3me3!!

  • Drew won't be writing this? That's disappointing. :(

  • Drew won't be writing this? That's disappointing. :(

  • This may be a little off topic, but seeing as many of you have commented on possibly a character from these novels becoming a squadmate and 4some reason I wonderd if Maybe , even at the slightest chance would it be appropiate and possible If a friend from online could come in as a squadmate. I also wonder how they would possibly take things like Squads to the next level.(keeping a open mind as i dont want to spoil) Now on my second playthrough of Me2 , i think ill give these novels a chance as i really like the masseffect STory, LOre and Chronology.

  • maybe but her story sounds very similar to jacks?
  • This will go great with my Alan Wake novel!

  • Hm, is it just me, or does this sound like Alice from the off-canon Resident Evil movie series? :/ Not sure how I feel about this...but I'll still read it becasue I love Mass Effect. xD

  • I am all for pushing books on other people since the longest thing they usually read is a game review or a restaurant menu... :(  all kidding aside a good story is a good story!  Here is hoping for one...

  • Oh man I cannot wait, the Mass Effect novels are absolutely fantastic. Its just too bad that Drew Karpshyn isnt writing this one as well.

  • I love the Mass Effect books they are genuinly good reads.

  • I still haven't read the last book that was made I need to catch up LOL. But that would be awesome if Grayson is in Mass Effect 3.
