Release Of Sony’s NGP Likely Delayed By Earthquake

by Ben Reeves on Apr 04, 2011 at 01:37 PM

Japan’s recent earthquake was an unfortunate tragedy, and it seems like the disaster’s collateral damage keeps piling up. According to SCEA president Jack Tretton, earthquake delays could push the release of the company’s NGP handheld into 2012 for many regions.

Tretton recently told Bloomberg that the earthquake damaged several of Sony's northern Japanese factories and resulted in part shortages from other Japanese suppliers. “It may be the straw that says ‘maybe we get to just one market by the end of the year,’” admitted Tretton.

Does this mean that only Japan will receive the NGP for Christmas? Sony still hasn’t made any solid release announcements regarding the handheld, but we might have to wait a little longer than expected before we get our hands on this hot little piece of hardware.
