The lights are on
Data firm Strategy Analytics is reporting that while Xbox 360 sales dominate the PlayStation 3 in the United States, that the latter is performing stronger on a global scale.
Taking a snapshot of the end of 2010, Strategy Analytics relays that the Nintendo Wii maintains its place as the king of consoles worldwide, with 75.5 million active units to date. The PlayStation 3 plays middleman with 43.4 million units sold, and the Xbox 360 weighs in at 42.9 million.
The firm notes that Microsoft’s reach falls short in European and Asian markets, lowering its overall global adoption rate, and that the number accounts for any boon in sales that corresponded with the launch of Kinect. The report estimates that global sales for the Xbox 360 will clock in at 13.7 million units by for 2011, with the PlayStation 3 moving 15.7 million consoles for the year.
Lastly, Strategy Analytics expects that Nintendo Wii sales will continue to decline, resulting in the perfect storm for Nintendo to launch a home console successor.
It's going to be really interesting seeing what Nintendo does from here. It seems like there has been some resistance on their end to even discuss a new home console, which could mean different things.
Hopefully their gameplan isn't to rely on the 3DS.
Wow, I cant believe that microsoft isn't as Global as I thought.
given the fact that the 360 had a head start of 1 year, the PS3 is already ahead anyhow. Personally I would love that the xbox/ps3 sales decline because I want a new console and quickly. Otherwise I'll buy a gaming PC, I'm not gonna play games with the same (low) quality graphics until 2015.
Every console has pro's and con's. However I have never been impressed by the wii and the desire to get one has been obsolete...
i just got the ps3 a couple months ago because before it was too much money
It's always interesting to see the sales numbers. I've always owned every console for each generation and have had no regrets...except for the Wii.
That is great, especially considering if these are only active systems not purchases.
I love how people confuse sales with active consoles
I HAVE NO IDEA HOW WII IS ON TOP BUT OTHER THAN THAT, WII AND XBOX SUCK BALLS!
Yep. It's pretty much fanboys and trolls-a-plenty right here. The way I see it, Internet trolls are really annoying, but there's really no way to get rid of them. Best way to deal with them is by ignoring them and pretending they don't exist. You know, like we do with the squid.
I would be shocked now if the PS3 meet those global numbers. It will continue to be behind in the U.S. Second it is not much different in Europe than it is here although the PS3 does have a very slight advantage there. The biggest place for the PS3 is Japan. And they have this far more important issue going on over there that will probably hurt sales for a long while. I have even heard from a few friends who are in the military over there and are working on the situation with the Japanese officials that the situation is far graver than the Governments are letting on. So these petty console wars are a non issue.
Cool, ps3 is selling better than xbox, in other countries. good to know...
