Dead Island Logo Deemed Too Graphic For North America

by Meagan Marie on Mar 22, 2011 at 04:49 AM

The Dead Island logo will be altered from its original state for the North American release, no longer boasting a corpse hanging from an idyllic palm tree. IGN reports that a Deep Silver representative confirmed the change was mandated by the ESRB. The logo will remain unaltered in-game and across Europe.

While the shambling zombie (pictured above) is much more iconic as a member of the undead, it’s less dramatic, to be sure. It’s not clear if the original logo was even intended to depict a zombie, as any novice would know that hanging a reanimated corpse wouldn’t do much good.

I’d personally assumed the imagery depicted an uninfected human hanging themselves out of desperation, which would be an admittedly more sensitive portrayal.

Do you agree with the ESRB’s decision? Was the original logo too graphic for western audiences?
