Tim Turi Alert: Sonic Comic Readying For Reboot

by Phil Kollar on Mar 20, 2011 at 02:45 PM

After 225 issues -- the longest run ever for a comic based on a video game -- Archie Comics' Sonic The Hedgehog will see a reboot in a storyline beginning in June titled -- wait for it -- "Sonic: Genesis."

Newsarama reports that the new storyline will follow an issue where a prominent Sonic cast member is reportedly going to die. Writer Ian Flynn explained the reasoning behind the reboot:

"There’s always that temptation to start over, take the best of what we have, and move forward in a new, more cohesive direction. Sonic: Genesis is an experiment in that direction. That, and SEGA was interested in us doing something special to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the franchise."

Flynn promised that the storyline will take the Sonic comics "back to a simpler premise." The Genesis storyline will run through issue 229, at which point the series will move back to its regular continuity, but with some major changes.

So anyone planning to take this opportunity to jump into the Sonic comics, or does the idea of a deeper storyline backing up the exploits of an attitude-filled, cartoon hedgehog fill you with dread as well?
