Electronic Arts Pulls Plug On Crysis 2 Demo For PlayStation 3

Citing performance issues, Electronic Arts and Crytek decided to abandon the PlayStation 3 multiplayer demo on the eve of the game's retail release.

After several people complained of excessive download times and connection issues, the company issued the following statement on its website:

"Thank you for your interest in the PlayStation 3 version of the Crysis 2 multiplayer demo. Though many gamers have had a great experience playing the demo, we are aware that others have been experiencing server connection delays. We’ve identified the root cause and have decided to close the PS3 demo in the next 24 hours to ensure all issues are resolved when the game launches next week. Our priority is to ensure that the final product is flawless at launch."

Though this is a blow to anyone hoping to check out the game over the weekend, the good news is PlayStation 3 owners won't have to wait long to get their Crysis 2 fix. The game hits store shelves for PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 next Tuesday.

  • Wow! This seems like kind of a big problem this close to launch. Maybe I should change my pre order to the 360 version.

At least they are kind of acknowledging it and hopefully it will be fine by the time it launches. They have identified the root cause, but can they really fix it and play test it enought to determine it is patched before launch?
  • But it wont work

  • The 360 Version runs smoother, looks more fluid and vibrant. The PS3 version looks WASHED OUT.
  • and thats why i'm not buying it. they've shown no support for the PS3 version whatsoever. we got the demo the latest and it was still a million times buggier than the other versions and now there taking it out all together?
  • Man, that sucks. I just got to download it yesterday. That said, there were some horrible connection problems with the demo. Their servers are not very good at all.
  • Thats why i have a 360 baby! wooo!

No problems on our side, i play the demo as soon as i get home.

I cant wait to get the game.
  • Bring on Socom 4.
  • From my play tests, the PS3 version definitely has sharper textures. However, the 360 version seems to have better clarity and less jagged edges. They both played smoothly with no frame rate problems, except for a minor hiccup in the 360 version during a few matches that went away quickly.
  • Meh, PS3(only) owners aren't missing anything in my opinion. I really didn't care for the beta/demo.
  • yep big problem.. the demo totally suck. im not buying it
  • I am not buying this game. This is rental for me.

  • Boo!

  • I went the PC route so I'm not too worried about it. PS3 owners are missing out for sure though.
  • I'm not buying this either way, but I'd be wary if I were going to get this for PS3.

Like sealsaa said, it's not really anything special. It's just a shooter.
  • I read an article that said the 360 version of the demo was a more recent build because there was some mess they had to patch or something.

From the youtube videos that i saw, the PS3 version looked less vivid. It was also brighter so the dark areas didn't look as dark. Overall it looked less realistic.

I'd really like to know if GI notices any differences in the final product. Not really interested in this game too much, but i'm curious if the versions really are identical.
  • WHAT THE HELL I DOWNLOADED THIS ON PS3 BECAUSE IT DIDN'T WORK ON PC FOR ME AND NOW THEY CANCEL THE DEMO!!! @#$%!
  • Oh wow, so login issues in PC version, connection issues in the PS3 version, weren't there issues earlier in the xbox demo or beta? Seems like this demo has been a bit messy, even though it was a blast! If Crytek keeps having these kind of problems post-retail, I imagine EA will step in :/ I sure hope they get these problems resolved. The original Crysis games were fun.
  • that sucks, atleast i played the pc demo for a good while :)

  • The problem is the developer, not the console. Take for example mass effect 2, the ps3 version was superior than the xbox version, that is because the console ps3 is better. In this case, the developer did a terrible job, ps3 is not to blame.
  • Sounds like the PS3 version is just going to be a crappy port.
