Action MMO Tera Scores Distribution Deal With Atari

by Phil Kollar on Mar 17, 2011 at 12:04 PM

If you're bored of the slower pace of the average fantasy MMO, En Masse Entertainment's upcoming Tera may be the game for you, and now it has a slick new distribution deal to help guarantee it some attention.

En Masse announced today that it has signed a deal to distribute Tera through Atari. Atari may not immediately stick out to as a triple-A MMO publisher, but back in 2008 they acquired Cryptic Studios, subsequently publishing Champions Online, Star Trek Online, and the upcoming Neverwinter.

If you've never heard of Tera, it's a new action-focused MMO that will feature traditional MMORPG quest and dungeon structure alongside much faster combat. En Masse publishing vice president Chris Lee explained why teaming up with Atari made sense for them:

"We put a lot of focus on finding the right company to distribute Tera in North America, and Atari emerged as a leader with an emphasis on high-quality online titles. Their strong distribution network, culturally iconic brand, and passion for what makes Tera a uniquely compelling game make them the right distributor for this launch."

For its part, Atari senior vice president Lee Jacobson had equally kind things to say about En Masse, saying that Tera has "all the elements of an MMO hit." We'll see if the game lives up to that potential when it launches later this year.
