[UPDATE] Bethesda Officially Unveils Prey 2

by Meagan Marie on Mar 14, 2011 at 04:02 AM

[UPDATE] This weekend the cover of French magazine Joystick hit the web, boasting an exclusive look at Prey 2. Bethesda has stepped in and officially confirmed the game’s existence, revealing that it is scheduled for release in 2012 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Human Head Studios returns to the helm and the game is being built with the id tech engine.

“We are thrilled to be working with Bethesda on Prey 2,” said Chris Rhinehart, project lead. “Prey 2 will provide gamers the opportunity to explore a new facet of the Prey universe, one that offers fast-paced action in an open, alien world. We’re excited to show gamers the title we have been working on and hope they will be as excited by this title as we are.”

More details are promised in the May issues of Official Xbox Magazine and PlayStation: The Official Magazine, as well as the aforementioned French publication.

[ORIGINAL STORY] This is one of those bare-bones news bits that allows us to confirm a game’s existence, but little else. Prey 2 is in development. It’s on the cover of the French magazine Joystick. The subtext translates to something along the lines of “Nobody was expecting it... But that's going to change,” perhaps acknowledging that the sequel has been off the radar for years.

Prey was originally published by 2K in 2006, but the rights of the property were handed over to Zenimax Media in 2009.

That’s all the information we’ve got for now, although details should begin to circulate as soon as the magazine does.
