Grand Theft Auto IV Sales Near 20 Million

by Matt Bertz on Mar 10, 2011 at 05:59 AM

Niko Bellic finally found the American Dream. At the Wedbush Securities Technology, Media & Telecommunications Conference, Take-Two revealed that Rockstar's latest entry in its massively popular sandbox action series has moved nearly 20 million copies.

We're not sure if those numbers include the two expansions, The Ballad of Gay Tony and The Lost and Damned, or the Liberty City Stories collection, but the huge returns push sales for the Grand Theft Auto series over the 100 million unit mark.

Take Two also revealed sales figures for several other of its more prominent franchises:

  • Red Dead Redemption: 8 million
  • Midnight Club series: 18 million
  • BioShock series: 8 million
  • Civilization series: 10 million
  • Carnival Games series: 7 million
  • Mafia series: 5 million
  • Borderlands: 4 million
  • Max Payne series: 7 million

Seven million for Carnival games? People must really like being grifted by carnies.

Overall, Take-Two owns 16 million-plus selling franchises and 29 titles of its titles have sold more than two million copies worldwide. Sounds like the company is trying to make itself look good for a potential acquisition.
