Microsoft Hiring For Work On The Next Xbox

by Phil Kollar on Mar 07, 2011 at 01:20 PM

Clearly this generation of consoles is lasting a bit longer than we're used to for various reasons, but we've got to imagine that Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo have at least started to think about what the next generation of video game hardware will look like. Microsoft has posted several job listings strongly hinting toward these suspicions.

The Beyond3D forums discovered the job postings on LinkedIn. The listings are seeking a graphics architect, a senior engineer, and a senior performance architect. All three listings mention "next generation console architectures from conception through implementation," suggesting that Microsoft is still in the early stages of work on the next generation Xbox.

IGN speculates that based on when they began work on the Xbox 360, we'll be waiting until at least 2012 or 2013 before we see the new Xbox in any form.

Microsoft has not yet responded officially about the uncovered job postings, but it's not a huge shock that they're beginning to plan for the future of the Xbox. Here's hoping that whatever they come up with is awesome.
