Is Rush The Codename For Grand Theft Auto V?

We've already offered up plenty of speculation on what we want from the inevitable Grand Theft Auto V, but now some details have leaked about an previously-unheard-of Rockstar project that may be the next GTA game.

Twitter user supererogatory did some digging this weekend and discovered various casting calls and actors commenting on a mystery video game project called "Rush." One actor (RealThunderWolf on Twitter) identified the game as a Rockstar project.

Supererogatory was then pointed toward this casting call for Rush, which further suggests a GTA connection with some characters that would not feel out of place in that franchise. An inbred hillbilly named Clyde? A middle-aged weed evangelist? Yep, these sound like Rockstar characters.

The character descriptions reference California a lot, suggesting a possible return to GTA's San Andreas setting. The list of characters also include two FBI agents, making us wonder if Rush could also possible be a codename for Agent, another Rockstar project that we haven't heard anything about for quite some time.

We've reached out to Rockstar to get an official comment on this possible leak and will report back with whatever we hear.

Comments
  • AWESOME if its true
  • Maybe they are taking the series in a slightly different direction. Undercover FBI agent maybe?
  • Please let it be Grand Theft Auto V, but instead of it being set in San Andreas, please bring back Vice City!
  • But...I'M a middle-aged weed evangelist...ROCKSTAR STOLE MY LIFE STORY.
    Expect a lawsuit shortly.
  • Deosent matter what it turns out to be everything Rockstar touchs is gold. Even table tennis was pretty fun.

  • Maybe it's a good sequel to Rush 2049. (I'm joking. but that was a sick game)

  • I'd rather they kept with the recent pattern and went with Vice City before San Andreas, but either is fine with me. Just as long as it's not London or some other boring city set in present day.

  • Sounds more like Agent to me with FBI being mentioned.

  • I think this is agent which i think takes place in the 70s. Plus i mean fbi and agent kinda goes together. And apparently one of the characters is a hippy.
  • Well, let's see rush=gold rush Gold rush = old california old california = Red Dead Redemption 2?
  • It might be cool to have a Rockstar game where the progression goes in reverse. Instead of going rags to riches, you'd start out as a billionaire and the challenge would be to keep your empire alive during a recession.

You'd start out with all sorts of stuff like vehicles, yachts, butlers, businesses and gangs under your control. As the game progresses it would become increasingly difficult to manage your money and power.

You eventually lose all your stuff by the end of the game and turn into a street thug in a vicious struggle to get back at the guys that screwed you which would naturally increase the difficulty of the final missions. You could make the beginning missions hilariously easy with everything you have at your disposal.

The people who just want to screw around before jumping into the multiplayer would have access to a variety of cool stuff to play around with immediately. And there would be a lot of choices and strategy in how to manage your empire as it crumbles. You'd have to choose like what to sell off or if your gangs started a war with each other, you'd have to take a side. Perhaps you could be the guy who gives npcs missions to assassinate people causing your businesses trouble.

The character you play as could be the hobo who found the diamonds at the end of GTAIV who rises to power with the gun shop business he is said to start. This would explain why he has control of the gangs.

It would be a very dramatic shift in gameplay. Being the one in control instead of accepting missions so this idea might work best with a spinoff series. I think a lot of players love the classic gta formula as is so this was just a random thought.
  • Its gotten to the point for me where I could give a care about news like this, simply because my back catalog is too large, and there are too many upcoming games for me to think about the future. I do not have a problem with gaming press outlets reporting this, there is no problem, in fact, Im glad that There's such large horizons for gaming, (the downside being I worry about sales for  every newly released game)

  • As long as I don't have to do another "Go get my drugs!" mission I will be happy. Those stupid missions ruined GTA IV for me.
