Fight Night's Andre Bishop Is Also A...Slamball Star?

by Dan Ryckert on Mar 03, 2011 at 09:19 AM

I've been playing through Fight Night Champion's new story mode recently, and most everything about it has impressed me. The presentation, story, variety, and voice acting are all top notch, so I decided to look up its key stars. I knew Eliza Dushku was the voice of Meagan McQueen, but I was curious as to who provided the voice and likeness of protagonist Andre Bishop. Turns out he's a dude who's performed significantly more slam dunks off of trampolines than me.

Remember Slamball? We'd forgive you if you don't. It aired on Spike TV for a couple of seasons back in the early 2000s, and featured a basketball court with trampolines all over it. As you'd expect, the players did crazy dunks and whatnot off of said trampolines. Despite the fact that it's a pretty sweet idea, the show went off the air. LaMonica Garrett (Bishop in Fight Night Champion) is listed as "Slamball's leading scorer" on his IMDB page. Sure enough, the crazy future sport (I'm not kidding, they talk about Slamball in Back to the Future II) is featured heavily on his personal website and we were able to find this clip below.

Here he is in Slamball gear on the left, and looking decidedly more hardcore on the Fight Night Champion boxart on the right.

I'm only about halfway through Champion mode right now, so don't spoil it for me if it takes a sudden turn and becomes a Slamball game. I'm gonna be pretty happy if that happens.

UPDATE: Apparently I'm in luck, according to LaMonica himself:
