The lights are on
Are you the type of person that likes to flaunt your video game elitism in the faces of the opposition? If you said yes, then you’re going to want to pay attention. Epic Games has announced how you can unlock a Gold Retro Lancer and Cole Train in Gears of War 3 by playing the multiplayer beta.
Testing beta versions of games and working out all the bugs is important to game makers, and Epic wants to reward folks who’re willing to put the effort into it. First and foremost, folks who participate in the beta will unlock a “beta tester” title which will distinguish them from the common, unworthy hordes of average Gears 3 players.
If you want to get a Gold Retro Lancer, you’ll have to play 90 matches in beta, or acquire 100 kills with the impaling machine gun. Once you achieve the precious metal-plated weapon it’ll be yours in the retail version.
Everyone knows that Cole was a talented Thrashball player before the Locust emerged to overthrow the world. And why wouldn’t you want to recapture the glory days of the Cole Train by unlocking his classic pads for use in multiplayer? If you play 70 matches of any type in the beta, you’ll unlock the Cole Train character variant. Play 13 more matches in the beta as Cole Train, and you’ll be able to keep him for use in the retail version.
You can also spot what Cliff Bleszinski calls the "flaming f***ing lancer," which is acquired by buying the Epic Edition of Gears of War 3.
