Doctor Who Gets A Free-To-Play MMO

If you think that Trekkies and Star Wars fans are the kings of the sci-fi dorks, you obviously haven't heard of Doctor Who, the long-running BBC series that's been enjoying a renaissance in the last decade or so. The TV show already spawned a successful batch of free-for-download adventure games, but now the good doctor is getting a bit more ambitious.

BBC Worldwide has announced that the California-based game developer Three Rings is working on a free-to-play MMO based on the Doctor Who property.

“Doctor Who: Worlds in Time will be a free-to-play multiplayer online game that invites players to save the universe by using their wits to solve time-bending puzzles and pulse-pounding challenges," said BBC Worldwide's EVP of digital entertainment Robert Nashak.

  • ummm, hmmm, I don't know what to say

  • That is seriously a neat concept. If they do it right it could be semi-successful. I've only watched tid-bits of the show, but it seems interesting enough that it could just work as and MMO. I guess we'll see.

  • So long as you can play as a Dalek. That would be epic.

  • doctor who should be doctor lame lol
  • How exciting!!!

  • There are so many different ways this could end up. Hopefully it'll be good.

  • I stopped watching after they changed the docter last year.
  • I love doctor who, if they let you make your own character and you get to work side by side with the Doctor himself I'll be in bloody heaven.
  • supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

  • When will it be realesead

  • Hell ya

  • I'll wait to hear more. I LOVE The Doctor, but I don't think Three Rings will be able to pull it off

  • Cool news.It would be great if you could play as multiple class' or as all the doctors. Can't wait to hear more news about this project.

  • Only one word can sum this up:

    DELETE!

    or EXTERMINATE!

Just pick sides. Oh! That's a good question. Can we pick sides in this game? Can't wait to find out.

  • I'm not really sure what to say on this one.

  • YES!!!

And it is a MMO based around problem solving instead of non-stop grinding.

  • sounds... exhilarating.

  • The first four season were incredible.  best show ever. im not sure about this though

  • The Brits seem to like Science Fiction more than Americans do. Or at least more culturally acceptable.

  • EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE!

Also, its about *** time it got its own MMO, because I want to be a time lord.
