Meet NEStalgia. This online RPG reimagines the MMO as it might have been if 8-bit systems had Internet connections. Best of all, it's absolutely free.

Indie Games has a great write-up about this intriguing new release, which has you exploring a Final Fantasy 1-style world and combat system, but with World of Warcraft-style quests, character customization, and team-up options.

Check out the video below to see NEStalgia in action, and if you like what you see, you can download and play it for free from the official site. I'm definitely going to give it a try this weekend.

    this could be the MMo to get me back in MMO if only they have a little hidden platforming sequence I'm sold. I just feel every game needs a well constructed hidden platformer, i'm looking at you Call of duty to start this new craze.

    Love 8-Bit. It has a great old timey feel that is simplistic, but very rewarding to play for some reason.

    lol son of a b*tch.  an 8-bit MMO was gonna be my breakthrough game design.  not really, but i've thought about it before, and thought it would be sweet.  i'm gonna have to try this out

    That's really cool, it reminds me of the old Final Fantasy games on the NES, except it's online.
