FortressCraft Looks A Lot Like Minecraft, Coming To Xbox 360

Developer Projector Games is prepping an episodic sandbox creation game that's due to hit Xbox Live Indie Games in March. Wow, does it ever look like Minecraft.

The official FortressCraft website contains several videos of the game and information (the first episode will be a co-op sandbox mode and the second will "start to introduce the game"). It also has forums with such topics as "So, what will you do when [Minecraft developer] Mojang sues you?" and "Differences between FortressCraft and Minecraft?".

The developer replies to these questions with a lengthy missive about how everything is a copy of something else and such. "There's no intellectual property I could be sued over for this," reads the post. "Notch has invented no new technology for this game. I'm not infringing his copyright or trademarks. He himself has said he's happy for clones and remakes and mods and tools."

  • Yes i somewhat agree that most new things today are really old ideas. But when you got an idea that works and looks the same way its just a copy somebody did to earn money. This is just a bad copy because this studio though ''hey minecraft is not on any console, lets copy it over so we earn some money''

  • I'm fine with this because Minecraft isn't accesable to consoles and this is substituting it.
  • I started looking at this when a commenter brought it up in the "minecraft coming to iOS" article. Appears interesting for folks like me without PCs capable of running minecraft (Intel HD "graphics"). Will be interesting, much like Fishcraft, a poor and obvious clone of Angry Birds. Maybe not as good as the original but I'll check it out and hope for a survival mode.

  • I really wanna play this.  Put exactly what I love to play on the console that everyone I know plays on.

  • Honestly, I don't really care if this IS a copy of MineCraft; I've been wanting to play Minecraft/a Minecraft-type game on my 360 instead of my laggy laptop.
  • I honestly don't know how i feel. The inner minecraft nerd within me is raging pretty hard but i'm trying to keep it at bay.

    Still, *** FortessCraft.

  • I wish I could have this game right now. Anyone know if this will be 360 exclusive? or will it be on ps3 too? I have both but I would rather have it for PS3

  • Well, it may look like MineCraft, but it isn't MineCraft.  The difference?  I don't think this will be sell as much, or be as much of an achievement as MineCraft was.

  • meh. i have been wanting a minecraft on console for a while. but not a minecraft rip off on console. will not purchase.

  • definitly a rip off, but it looks great, lets hope it plays great.

  • Doesn't matter to me if it's a rip-off of Minecraft or not; it doesn't look like the original's coming to consoles any time soon, and this is the next best thing. As long as I get to build giant Marios and Links out of blocks I'm cool with whatever.

  • After reading the post linked here I'm amazed he's basically justifying his blatant copy/paste of the core mechanics of minecraft by saying he didn't steal their code he wrote it from scratch in C#. Also he cites that minecraft 'copied' 4-5 other titles from decades back, What minecraft did was take aspects of those old titles/tool and built apon them and enhanced them and created new things with the ides from those titles. his "fortress craft" game looks to change nothing from the original work of Minecraft aside from higher res textures. He's basically skirting copyright infringement by calling the "innovation is nothing new cluase" yet he doesn't seem to innovate anything about Minecrafts basic structure/gameplay only emulates it for the 360 console. I dont play Minecraft never have but this type of screw the indie guy mentality of bigger publishers is hurting far more than its helping the industry and the community.
  • I actually wouldn't mind minecraft on xbox.

  • He made it clear, that he's happy if people use his idea and create something new, but doesn't like a 1:1 ripoff for profit.

  • Wow, and I thought Dante's Inferno was bad. The problem is not that they made a Minecraft clone, its that they're trying to profit on it.

  • I suppose that this is technically a minecraft port to the 360 which is pretty cool

  • I suppose that this is technically a minecraft port to the 360 which is pretty cool

  • So far, this just looks like a rip-off, but it could be something that could be good.

  • Im not much of a pc game entusiast, but ive been wanting to try minecraft, so i will probably be getting this

  • Wow really, A good company makes a great game, you're going to rip them off to make a few bucks. I'd rather buy a game from this shameless company if it was their own creation rather then a boring copy of what is already a great game. F*** you Projector Games!! >:(
