FOX News Blogger Continues To Beat The Bulletstorm Drum

by Jeff Cork on Feb 20, 2011 at 05:00 AM

Fox News blogger John Brandon is at it again. The author has written another blog post about Epic Games' upcoming Bulletstorm game, in which he wonders why the shooter was censored in Germany but not in the United States. In his earlier post about the game, "Is Bulletstorm the Worst Video Game in the World?" he quoted psychiatrist Carol Lieberman as saying “The increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the playing out of [sexual] scenes in video games.” Lieberman later said her statement was misrepresented in Brandon's original piece.

Brandon's latest post highlights the gamer backlash his original article caused, and then focuses on the notion that retailers routinely sell M-rated games to children. A recent secret-shopper program conducted by the Parents Television Council found that minors were unable to purchase such games 81 percent of the time, a rate that the ESRB says exceeds that of any other entertainment mediums.

Brandon concludes by asking the question, "So what is to become of Bulletstorm? So much has been written about the shooter prior to release that the actual game may end up being disappointing.

"Indeed, FoxNews.com tested a widely available demo and found the game was gory and crude -- but hardly a creative tour-de-force."

We'll have to wait until February 22 to see how it's embraced by players. It's clear by now that Brandon won't be picking it up at a midnight launch.
