UPDATE: No Move Support for PS3 Version of Portal 2

[UPDATE] Valve just sent out a statement dashing rumors of any Move support for Portal 2.

The statement reads:

"Hi,
There's a story making the rounds regarding Portal 2 support for PS3 Move. Unfortunately this quote was 'lost in translation' -- Portal 2 does not include support for Sony's motion controller.
Thanks"

Original Story (February 17 2011 08:51 AM)

Valve has promised to make the PS3 version of Portal 2 the best console version of the game. Does this include Move support?

According to the German PlayStation Blog's interview with Chet Faliszek, a writer at Valve, the PS3 version of Portal 2 will have "volle PlayStation Move Unterstützung," which translates to "full PlayStation Move support." Given the FPS camera and gameplay nature of the game, Move support seems like an easy and excellent choice. On the other hand, Valve Faliszek says that Portal 2 on the PS3 doesn't utilize Sony's other new initiative – 3D – since he doesn't think it would mesh with the gameplay, and Valve would have had to put it in from the beginning.

Would Portal 2 support of Move make you consider getting the peripheral?

  • May the fanboy wars begin. Strange how Valve at one time hated Sony and are now boasting their new found love for the system.
  • Yea, this was plainly obvious when they started showing that Move-esque peripheral from Razer, remember? Sixense or something. With the deal they have going (Buy on PS3, get it free for PC) I wouldn't be surprised if they bring it all together with some sort of Move/Sixense marketing deal.

    Edit: Apparently I made a bad guess : /
  • Buying Move for...? No... I mean.... That's just.... That's plain silly. Why would...? I mean, it seems like it'd fit... I like Portal and all but... You think I'm made of...? Back in my day we...

    Maybe.
  • This makes the game so much better, but i'm still not gonna shell out the money for Move. Still plan on getting the game, though... eventually.

  • Yes. Perfect way to play this game.
  • Definitely would probably make me want one even more after KZ3 and the sharp shooter got such good reviews. SO HARD TO RESIST!

  • Does anyone really care about Move? A knock-off of 4-year-old tech that no gamer seemed to like back then, either?
  • Dang, Portal 2 would be awesome with Move support, but I'm not sure it's worth the cash I'd have to drop for it...I'll chalk this up as a maybe. I'd be more likely to do this if there was a discounted Move bundle with Portal 2, which Sony should really consider anyway since it's bound to move some units.

  • I'll be one of the first in line to get portal 2, and probably download the PC version soon after but.…

noooo, I'm not going rush out and get move just for that. That seems silly, I'll just take that money and buy other games instead.

  • def geting portal2 but wouldnt pick up move if they were giving it away

  • Personally I doubt this is true. I feel like Valve would have announced it already if they were doing it.

  • awesome.. I already own the move.. and now portal 2 it's a must have.. even more that I could play also on my mac :P

  • Well, Valve is picking favories.
  • Wow! So you can open portals in the walls of your house!!!

You can't? Oh. Bah, cool anyway.

  • Valve is one of my favorite developers because of their fan support and service. Yet Microsoft puts such a tight leash on them to prevent them from doing their job properly it seems. I'm starting to get annoyed at being left in the dust as a 360 Valve fan just because MS is too stubborn to make a few exceptions in Valve's case.
  • I pre-ordered POrtal 2 for xbox 360, and now I feel left out. I have a PC but I would like to play with friends on co-op on the same system. I don't want to play co-op with random people. Second Pc comes out with a Portal 2 mod thing where you can make your own levels!!! Now Ps3 which I don't have will get updates quicker. I feel Xbox is too behind with POrtal 2. Thats why I wish I could get the Pc for free with xbox purchase so I could make maps! Oh, and they should do a Xbox-Kinect thing with POrtal 2! That would be cool but maybe too much?
  • I'll only buy it if that little ball turns orange and blue when I switch portals.
  • Already own move, but this makes it more likely that I'll get Portal 2 for the PS3 instead of Xbox.

  • You know how when a new technology launches (a new console or peripheral, for instance), MOST of its launch titles are a little, shall we say, sub-par quality... I think that Move has something going for it if it's breaking into some triple-A titles like Killzone and Portal so soon out of its starting gate. Has Microsoft made any announcements about similar Kinect, uh, kinnections to some of their big franchises coming out soon? Please reply and name some. All I got to say is, Score one for Sony. (Disclaimer: I am not a fanboy - I have all systems and respect each for its strengths.)
  • oh oh oh OH! this would be crazy cool! i've got the Move already, i'm just holding out for more great games with Move support, and Portal 2 will undoubtedly be a great game. PLEASE let this be true!
