Sony Could Be Working On Its First Gaming Tablet

by Ben Reeves on Feb 16, 2011 at 11:40 AM

With the tablet market booming like a ghetto blaster, it wouldn’t be surprising if Sony threw its hat into the ring. If rumors are true, the company has already started working on a gaming tablet that could be out this year.

Engadget just released details for, what it believes, will be Sony’s first PlayStation Certified gaming tablet. The system is being dubbed the S1, and if the rumors are true, it will run Google’s Honeycomb OS, feature a 9.4-inch touch panel sporting a 1,280 x 800 pixel resolution, and house both front- and rear-facing cameras.

What’s unique about this tablet is its wrapped design, which is intended to mimic a magazine folded backward upon itself. While we’re not sure about the form factor, we’re excited to hear more about the S1’s gaming and multimedia possibilities, as well as its possible PS3 integration.

The S1 could be out by September for around $599. Hopefully we hear some official announcements soon.
