Sony Says It's Mindful Of the NGP's Price

by Matthew Kato on Feb 15, 2011 at 02:40 AM

Everyone's talking about the price of Sony's NGP and what we want it to be, what it might be, and what it absolutely shouldn't be. Shuhei Yoshida, senior vice president of product development, won't reveal what the NGP costs, but is trying to reassure the public that Sony is conscious of the unit's price.

"...Since the beginning, we had a target in mind," he told Edge Magazine. "So, when considering various features, we always had our price range in mind. There were elements that we found pretty cool, but had to set aside to remain on target. It's a big lesson we learned from the PS3. There's no point putting everything you want into a device and doing the math later. We always had the price and consumer in mind. We had to sell something that people could buy."

Hearing Yoshida specifically name the PS3 and its early pricing woes could be a good sign for prospective NGP buyers who hope the handheld doesn't cost an arm and a leg and another arm.
