The lights are on
In some bad news for gamers who loved the free-running of Mirror's Edge, Electronic Arts has apparently halted development of the sequel from Battlefield 3 developer DICE.
While Mirror's Edge 2 was never officially unveiled, EA CEO John Riccitiello has talked about the company's philosophy when it comes to the sequel. That talk may amount to nothing; according to a report press2play.tv (as translated by Eurogamer), "The project has been stopped - involved parties at DICE are working on something else now."We know that the "something else" is Battlefield 3, but it's still sad that work on Mirror's Edge 2 isn't moving forward. That's not to say that we'll never see a sequel, but EA's lack of enthusiasm surely isn't a good sign.

RAAAAAGE
The first Mirror's Edge was great. There were some, er, hiccups, but that's exactly why we need a sequel so they can fix all the stuff that was wrong with the first one.
I was surprised to see this even started considering the lackluster sales and reviews of the first.
Oh thats sad. I'd like to see a sequel. The first one was fun.
I really hope it doesn't end up being canceled. I really enjoyed the original and would really like to continue Hope's adventures.
I'd never heard of parkour before mirrors edge. This game is what got me started out in training and looking for places to train. A revolutionary plat former game literally inspired me to go out and do something. Why would they halt production on something so unique?
Sad indeed.
a game that was really fun and didn't have needless killing rampant throughout.
not only could it have been properly executed and been built up more on a great 1st try. but the industry, with all the MDK (murder death kill), needs more uniqueness to it.
multiplayer could have been a great component for m.e.2.
i know that we as a fan base are the ones that ultimately make or break a game by our purchasing power and word of mouth, but it's sad to see that the majority of gamers are into the MDK and keep that machine moving along quite nicely.
with new ip's just like any new business, needs to stay in business much longer to keep that momentum going especially in hard times. quitting because something else will sell better, is just an unfortunate side effect of capitalism. games are a business and it's all about the bottom line. Hey EA, your becoming like any other big film studio, be careful.
i hope some day in the future some other dev will go out on a limb and make a great parkour type game that has similarities to mirrors edge.
Or EA finishes up some awesome titles and gets back to this one
:)
upsetting.
It's a shame. The first game had a lot of potential, which it didn't quite live up to. This could have been a chance to really wow people...and hire better writers.
i don't think too many people will care considering its being done for Battlefield 3
Weaksauce
Uh oh. I understand that EA wants DICE to focus on Battlefield 3 right now.
I can wait, especially if it's for BF3, but I want this game to come out somewhere in the next 3-5 years. It was great, and now with all the feedback DICE has gotten over the last few years, they have the wisdom to expand it to bring it to its full potential.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EA sucks.
