Activision Interested In Buying Take-Two?

by Matthew Kato on Feb 14, 2011 at 02:58 AM

At the moment, Activision still has egg on its face from the cancellation of the Guitar Hero franchise, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have money in its pocket and hunger in its eyes.

MCV in the U.K. is reporting that an unidentified "senior executive" (whether that's from Activision, Take-Two, or some other company entirely is unknown) says that the idea of Activision acquiring Take-Two is out there. "There are very strong rumors amongst people at a very senior level within the global business, but they're not much more than that at the moment – they are just rumors."

Take-Two has long been a target of acquisition talks, but the last suitor – Electronic Arts – couldn't seal the deal in 2008, so it's not simply a matter of signing a few documents.

Activision certainly has good reason to eye Take-Two given that the home of Rockstar has an attractive portfolio that spans from BioShock to Grand Theft Auto to even 2K Sports, and the acquisition would give Activision something more than Call of Duty titles.
