The lights are on
Update 2: According to the official Mass Effect Facebook page, Mansell is indeed the composer for Mass Effect 3. The update reads: "Have you ladies and gents seen Black Swan or The Wrestler? Mass Effect 3 scored the same composer! Promises to be a fantastic soundtrack!"
Still no word as to if Jack Wall will be involved, but at this point it looks like Mansell is being positioned as the sole composer.
Update: EA doesn't have any details to announce at this time in regards to Mass Effect 3's composer.
Original Story: In a recent interview with online music publication The Quietus, composer Clint Mansell – most recently known for his work on The Wrestler and Black Swan – casually commented that his upcoming projects include Mass Effect 3.
“I'm doing a video game this year actually. Mass Effect 3,” confirmed Mansell.
“That's what I'm figuring,” Mansell continued when asked about the dynamic nature of video game music. “As I was saying about Public Enemy and re-working old hip-hop tunes for Requiem, and kind of re-working old ballet tunes for Black Swan, with something like Mass Effect you're more like a DJ, with all these elements. You've got the holding pattern, then the big explosion where you need the score to kick in. Then you need to take it off on a tangent. You've got all these different elements that change depending on what the player does. You have to figure out an overall symphony, but be able to break it down into component parts. You can bring the pain when required.”
Composers Jack Wall and Sam Hulick spearheaded the original Mass Effect soundtrack, with Wall taking over exclusively on Mass Effect 2. We’ve contacted EA to see if the music for Mass Effect 3 will be a collaborative effort, or if Wall is no longer working on the franchise. [via The Quietus. I need this game now.
Wow...that's awesome...Although I did already like the music from the first two...not sure why they needed to change
Clint Mansell is awesome...Black Swan's music was so amazing, had to pick up the soundtrack for it as soon as I finished watching the movie.
I may be losing interest in Mass Effect, especially after the second, but I might have to check out Mass Effect 3's soundtrack.
I thought the first two games had a really unique soundtrack and I really liked it. I hope they don't do a complete overhaul of the music, although I do like Mansell's work
Well, now we know the soundtrack is going to be epic.
I'll have to watch BS then. Can't wait for ME3, really hope it lives up to its predecessors.
I love Jack Wall, but I'm very excited about this team up.
Mass Effect 3 is going to be simply AMAZING.
im sorrie to say but i liked how i could change the armor and drive around in mass efffect 1....2 was ok and looked great but the first one was WAY better
Should be a pretty awesome soundtrack.
This sucks, WTF happend to Jack Wall he's been with the franchise since day 1, why is this guy now involved. Jack Wall is the only one who truly gets the ME franchise. This guy im not so sure on, it seems that Bioware just keeps on taking out elements which we have all grown to love about the ME series. The first ME soundtarck was te work of Wall and Sam Hullick, I think thats how you spell his name, and it was awesome, then came the ME2 soundtrack also Walls work again that was a gem......And now this for some reason I do not trust this guy with the music of the one of the best game franchises out there. This only leaves me with this to say Jack Wall better be involved with this project or else I may just loos some of the respect I have for the music in this game. the only exception i will make on the music would be for both the overlord DLC and Liar of the ShadowBroker DLC, since Chris Lennetz was able to pull it off.
this could be so awesome. i've loved his ability to create foreboding atmospheres in movies. this could translate really awesome into the mass effect universe.
I loved the ME2 music so I sure hope Jack Wall is back and this is simply a collaboration
I'm all game. Black Swan was excellent and Mass Effect 3 will be too.!So excited! Not because of the music, just in general. lol
Jack Wall did a phenomenal job with the Mass Effect soundtrack. Mansell has a lot to live up to. He is in a whole new arena.
I hope its a collaberative effort. I loved the soundtrack to ME2 so much and I would miss Jack Wall if he didn't do it again.
i love Clint! this makes my day! he also did work on The Fountain which i absolutely love! BIG EXCITEMENT!
Hey, soundtracks add to the atmosphere of the game. Whether it's the classical feel of The Elder Scrolls or the futuristic creepiness of Dead Space, soundtracks matter.
