Oops! Kevin Butler Retweets PS3 Jailbreak Code

by Matt Helgeson on Feb 09, 2011 at 02:34 PM

Kevin Butler has been Sony's marketing golden boy for the past couple of years, but it looks like the blonde bombshell just stuck his e-foot in his e-mouth in a big way. An anonymous poster to Slashdot claimed that the ad-man had retweeted a message from one of his 69,000 followers that included a code that hackers had been using -- along with a USB dongle -- to circumvent PS3 system security. Even more damning, the user took a picture of the tweet in question and posted it. Here it is:

Now, this is NOT the infamous rootkey that has caused Sony so much trouble, but this code had been a major issue for the company until the recent firmware 3.55 update. Still, there have been reports that some hackers are still using this jailbreak code and dongles by not updating to the newest firmware, and then using a proxy server to get the units online.

Seems like a whole lot of trouble just to make a dumb Battleship joke.
