THQ Sells Off Mobile Unit

by Matthew Kato on Feb 08, 2011 at 04:21 AM

The company has announced that it has sold off its mobile games unit to Sweden's 24MAS, but this doesn't mean that THQ is getting out of the mobile gaming business. Just the opposite, in fact.

"This agreement and our ongoing relationship with 24MAS will enable us to continue focusing on cutting edge games for Apple and emerging smartphone platforms," said Ian Curran, THQ's executive vice president of global publishing, "while enjoying the distribution services of 24MAS on wireless carrier platforms. The combination of advertising and paid content solutions also enables us to maximize THQ's intellectual property in emerging markets."

THQ is going through some changes, including everything from re-thinking its kids' licenses, to opening up a new studio in Montreal, to re-arranging its software lineup. It should be an interesting company to watch in the coming years.
