EEDAR Analyzes NGP's Chances, Predicts Price
EEDAR is one of the industry's foremost analyst firms, and today they released a report on Sony's NGP handheld. The report was compiled by Jesse Divnich, who attended the unveiling of Sony's NGP in Japan.
Overall, EEDAR appears to be fairly positive on the PSP, claiming "[We] expect the NGP to handsomely surpass sales of its predecessor, the PSP. This is based on assumptions that the NGP: (i) is competitively priced, (ii) third‐party publishers provide sufficient long‐term original content and (iii) retail shelf space is adequate."
As for price, EEDAR expects that the NGP will be priced between $299 and $349, but not to exceed $399 in the U.S. However, the report did conclude that a 3G capable model of the NGP would probably be priced differently than the Wi-Fi only model. EEDAR feels that the units 3G capabilities will be used primarily for "multiplayer and social functions, " but "will not provide sufficient bandwidth for large game downloads."
EEDAR is also "cautiously optimistic" that the unit's touch screen, rear touch pad, and Sixaxis tilt functionality will help drive sales and also encourage developers and publishers to do more than just port over existing games and franchises to the handheld.
