Miyamoto Working On A New Super Mario Bros. For 3DS

by Phil Kollar on Feb 01, 2011 at 01:00 PM

We've heard about a lot of first-party titles coming for Nintendo's new 3DS handheld, including a few N64 remakes and a new Paper Mario, but we had yet to hear about a proper mainline Mario game for the new handheld. No worries, folks. According to Miyamoto, it's on the way.

In a newly-posted Iwata Asks interview about the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., Mario mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that he is working on a completely new Mario game for Nintendo's upcoming 3DS hardware:

"So, in the interests of adopting new technology for the Super Mario Bros. tradition, I am now making a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Nintendo 3DS system."

Miyamoto doesn't reveal any more details beyond the project's existence, but he does say that he "want[s] to show everyone as soon as possible what the new Super Mario Bros. will be like on the Nintendo 3DS." Sounds like a great E3 reveal to me. What do you think?
