Nintendo Announces New Kirby Title For Wii

Today Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata revealed a new Kirby game is in the works for the Wii, and the pink cream puff is no longer made of yarn.

The new Kirby title (which so far doesn't have an official name) is being developed by HAL, and is scheduled to release sometime this year. We don't have any other information right now, but the game looks like it's returning to the character's roots, both in terms of art style and gameplay. Here is a brief video of gameplay via YouTube.

  • Looks like classic Kirby, very cool.
  • Classic Kirby! I totally approve of going back to the Kirby-eats-everything gameplay, as fun as Kirby's Epic Yarn actually was (and it really was).

  • Love Kirby. Still waiting for a game like Kirby 64 where you could mix-and-match powers. Nothing has beaten that game yet for its pure awesomeness. Darth Kirby still wins.
  • Whoa! Hopefully this game will be longer than Super-Star Ultra.

  • schweet

  • It kinda looks like what brawl used for their campaign
  • Doesn't look nearly as cute as Epic Yarn, but looks waaaaay better in terms of gameplay.

    SUPER STOKED!!!

  • I like classic Kirby much better than yarn Kirby. It just didn't feel right not being able to breathe in and swallow enemies.

  • I am always so amazed at how fast Nintendo can keep pumping out these awesome games that turn out better than they seem nearly every time. A new Kirby is never an exception. I like how they're sticking with the Brawl-engine graphics; it's cool looking, neat, and at the same time makes Kirby's cuteness stand out even more.
  • Hi, I'm Kirby, and I approve of this message.
  • That...looks pretty cool.Seems you can do some sort of "Super moves" now such as the giant sword and flame dragon, though I've not played a kirby since the first 2 or 3 so I'm rather behind on my Kirby if he could do so before.

  • Most exciting.  Can't wait!

  • that was a BIG SWORD!!!! and new powers! lasso and....waterfall?
  • I had to watch that twice. It looks great! I never would have expected an awesome new Kirby game on Wii two years in a row! Way to go, Nintendo!

  • Reminds me of Kirby 64. Looks amazing!!

  • ...wow. I never really thought about how much the Wii needs an HD upgrade, but this video really proves that they need it REALLY badly. The core game may not be bad, but to me, it just looks like a slightly remastered verstion of Kirby 64. Also, food for thought; how many of Nintendo's big games actually even use motion control all that much? Brawl, Metroid, Kirby, Mario, DK, none of them actually NEED it. Motion is just tacked on to remind you how great and useful it is... Once again, not hating on Kirby/Nintendo, but I'm just saying that graphics do kinda matter. Nintendo is definitely stuck in a rut right now. They cannot come out with a new home console, since the 3DS was the first priority. So, they have to just wait it out while everyone else steals Nintendo's lime light for the home consoles. All they have are just last generation Gamecube titles with tacked on motion control.
  • This is what I think: (_!_)
  • I miss the art style of Epic Yarn, but I think the gameplay will more than make up for that.

  • Okay so I'm not sure that you guys know this, but there was this 3d gamecube Kirby game that was in the works like 7 years ago. I saw it on Nintendo's website and watched the trailer, but then it just disappeared. To this day I still wonder where it went... OH WAIT, THIS IS THE KIRBY GAME FOR GAMECUBE THAT WAS MADE FOR THE GAMECUBE 7 YEARS AGO. YIPPEE.
  • Can't wait to see what this games gonna be like. :)
