5th Cell Releases A Few More Details On Its Upcoming Shooter

by Jeff Cork on Jan 27, 2011 at 03:05 AM

Developer 5th Cell has released a bit more information about its upcoming game Hybrid, and it's a far cry from its whimsical Scribblenauts and Drawn to Life roots. The game, Hybrid, is a post-apocalyptic shooter set in 2031. After a massive asteroid hit the Earth, killing billions, survivors faced a mutagen contained within the rock itself. Now, survivors are split into two factions, the Paladins and the Variants.

Players will choose which side to align themselves with, and then work to reclaim territories in a persistent world. There are character and equipment unlocks to keep players busy, as well as what 5th Cell is calling "Combat Focused Movement," which they claim is a new system unique to the shooter genre. The team will be sharing more details about this gameplay mechanic at GDC in a few weeks.

In the meantime, check out the new screens below and be sure to visit the game's official site. There's a trailer there that's definitely worth checking out.
